Cooking Tilapia The Easy Way
Tilapia is a fish that has a delicate flavor. Cooking tilapia is really easy as you can steam, bake, broil, grill, or fry. Since it does not have a distinct flavor of its own, it works very well with Asian recipes. You could try a crispy fried whole tilapia fish with hot chili sauce. These also taste great in fish tacos.
If you want to grill tilapia you could follow the same method for grilling. Just marinate your fish fillets. Clean the grates and coat it with oil. Preheat the grill to about 300 degrees and then place the marinated tilapia on the grill, but ensure that the flames don’t touch the fish directly. The tilapia should be grilled with indirect heat for best results. When the fish is white and the juices run clear, it is an indication that the fish is done.
Tilapia is basically lean and white. It has very high protein content and may not taste like fish. Hence, it is all the more popular in the US. Tilapia is a great choice for the diet conscious and for those who are on a low carb diet.
Cooking tilapia with garlic butter
Tilapia fillets – 4
Butter – 2 tbsps.
Garlic (finely minced) – 2 cloves
Pepper & salt seasoning
Parsley and paprika for seasoning
Method:
Take a pan and combine all the ingredients and heat over a low flame until the butter melts. Remove from heat. Take this mixture and coat the bottom of a baking dish and place the tilapia fillets over it. Coat each of the tilapia fillets with this mixture and bake at 350 degrees for around 12 – 15 minutes. Try to pierce with a fork gently. If it flakes easily, then the fish is done. Remove from heat and set aside for ten minutes and then serve.
Breaded tilapia
Rinse tilapia fillets and pat dry. Dip in beaten egg and coat with bread crumbs. Add a few drops of lemon juice and season with black pepper and salt. Bake the breaded tilapia at 360 degrees for about 30 minutes.
You can replace the black pepper with a liberal sprinkling of grated parmesan cheese. This will give an entirely different flavor.
