Kids, Color & Bedding

Kids love color – the brighter the better and they don’t care if it matches or not. That’s probably why playrooms, daycare centers and nurseries are a riot of color – it’s stimulating and fun. The challenge is how to bring color into your home in a way that works for you. Orange pillows are good, orange walls, not so much. When your little princess wants purple and pink from floor to ceiling, a good compromise might be purple bedding – pretty much anything in the way of soft goods like rugs, curtains, comforters and quilts are quick and easy to change so everybody’s happy, plus kid’s grow and change so quickly you don’t want to commit to every new fascination.

One way to cater to your little one’s current interest is with pillows, sleeping bags or napmats in the colors and themes they like. A nap mat decorated with a favorite character or popular theme makes nap time fun and it gives your child something that belongs just to them, so if sea life is their new love, take the plunge with an undersea motif sleeping bag and let them dive in.

Experts say you should have three sets of bedding with one on the bed, one in the wash and one at the ready, so that’s three opportunities for kids to choose designs and colors they love.  Busy parents know that kids tend to do what they like, so letting them choose the bedding may even help to encourage a peaceful bedtime as well as promote housekeeping skills such as making the bed.
